GMail on the BlackBerry Grows Up

I have been using Gmail on my berry for a long time now, but it was always lacking a few things to make it a replacement for the enterprise email most of us are accustomed to: notification, contacts, and calendar sync to name a few. Well no longer. Google recently released an upgrade to the Gmail mobile platform with some major enhancements, mainly the items I mentioned earlier, but with some added bells and whistles to keep us all happy too.

Now Gmail can alert you to a new message, just as the enterprise email, with a tone. The icon changes to alert you as well, so now you can see you have a new message by just glancing at the screen on your berry. Also the data speed seems to be greatly increased, in other words, you get more faster. But, by far and away the best added feature is the ability to see your contacts. In the menu you can select “Most Contacted” or “All Contacts”, I played with this a while and found it to be suitable for viewing your notes, making calls and sending emails, but you still have to log in to Gmail on a computer to edit your contacts, maybe the next release will handle editing?
